Say what?

I have been listening....

On my trip in Buffalo before residency

"an emergency toasting"
Why my dad's wife kept the toaster that only toasted one piece of bread.
"who the heck are you?"
What my cousin said to me after not seeing me for 30 years.
"Infant of Prague"
an answer to my question of who is the doll in the front of the church with the pretty dress?

At residency....

" I don't know how to wail"
in a conversation of mourning for the dead
"invisible red thread."
a tradition in Korean culture, you are bound to your ancestors through it.
" deep splinters of anger"
more discussion of grief
"towers of ashes"
yet more discussion of death

"She has a gentle push. The wind blows at just the right time to get the hair out of your eyes."
what a student said about adviser Lan Thao

"She is like putting honey on your heart"
What a student said about adviser Gale

"Push yourself in the beginning because you won't want to do it in the end"
A graduate students comments on doing their portfolio.

"A combination of all the force and all the gentleness can set the stone."
A graduate student's comment in her presentation.

"the portfolio is like giving birth, but you still need to do your presentation, which is like delivering the afterbirth"
A comment from an adviser.

"my boss says you are the beautiful people."
A comment from staff about the MFAIA students

"I am interested in the place between spaces."
A learner in my group.

"Is a perceived ethical conundrum a conundrum?"
from a presentation.

"Getting my neighbor with the promotion of chickens"
( not a direct quote, but the intention from a students presentation)

"I saw you coming from afar and I was dying of hunger."
From Gales group.

"As encouraging as Goddard is in finding our own path isn't it strange that the last thing we do before leaving residency is go to our student information system and press a button that says, 'SUBMIT'"
A student from a past residency

"I so wanted to play this tree!"
A Goddard student about the installation of china in a tree.

"DON'T WRITE ON THE MAP"
a comment about the art crawl map.

"Theinkling- theory and inkling."
Pam Hall at graduation

"I sincerely appreciate the hell you put me through."
a graduate student said to her advisers at the graduation ceremony.

"I'm trying to knit a sweater here and your throwing sticks in it."
my friend told me his son said at the dinner table.

"I have darkness in my head"
A g2 spoke about understanding if they are studying the "right" thing.
