G3 packet 5 is done.

Yes, and it will soon be mailed. It occures to me at this time next year I will be pressing the button that says, Yes, I intend to graduate and will be prapring for my graudation residency. One year won't be long and i have just one more semester of exploration before bulcking down into my thesis writing. How do I make that semester count? Waht is the best study for me as an artist/writer? What will help with my future? I have my 19 hours of traditional transcripts in both sculpting and writing so I feel a little mroe freedom in what i can explore. I have prompted my advisor and am making arrangments to talk to the director before returning to residency. We evaluate ourselves during this journey as well as our adivosrs. I want to be sure that I don't get to the end and find that I am missing something that should have been done. I know some have had to do that. I suppose a good practice is to cover all of the degree criteria in each semester.

So now it is time for the end of the semester evaluation. What questions are asked? Here are the prompts.

Areas of inquiry.

1. Overall, how did your creative and intellectual work evolve this semester? What were your goals and how well did you meet them? How has your work this semester affected your art practice and how you see yourself as an artist?

2. What creative projects did you undertake this semester and what did you discover as a result? In what ways was the work experimental; did you explore any new processes, materials, contexts or goals this semester? Describe both the intentions and the outcomes of this work. What learning, new possibilities, products or other results emerged from these activities?

3. What critical discourses and theoretical concepts did you engage with this semester? What artists; theorists; movements; fields of study; cultural, social and political frameworks; or other areas of knowledge did you explore? What products (including but not limited to critical writing, essays, annotations, etc.), new connections and learning outcomes emerged from this work? How does this learning contribute to your overall creative practice?

4. What resources did you use this semester? Include a complete bibliography. In addition, please discuss your participation in peer-learning opportunities.

5. If you engaged in a Practicum this semester describe it briefly (where, when, what, who) and summarize your central learning outcomes and insights from this project. Address how the project may have expanded the contexts, sites and/or audiences for your creative practice. If the practicum will be continuing or there is more work to complete for it, please indicate. (Please be reminded that you will also write a full Practicum Report for your final Portfolio.)

6. How do you see yourself progressing towards fulfillment of the degree criteria, which includes building a fully developed and documented personal practice, an ability to articulate the contexts for your work, an understanding of the nature of art and an understanding of interdisciplinarity? Please describe which areas you still need to address and how you intend to do this in coming semesters.

This is my last thing to do for this semester and then it is waiting for that Red no from my advisor to turn into a green yes. To have the official granting of G4 status. And last but not least to be sure that the traditional transcripts are applied.

Then most students say... I guess I am finished. but I like to look froward to next semester. Plan my study plan for residency and bibliography, as well as begin working in that direction. and then of course it is preparing the welcoming committee for next residency. I can't help but wonder if there are any people considering going to Goddard or Vermont College and reading this blog. It has been a fantastic journey.

TAKE NOTE—FOR GRADUATES

I have a while before I graduate, but I am trying to take note of everything that comes my way. So when a letter comes in my inbox that says, "If you are graduating in 2011 read this, if not disregard," I still pay attention.

This is what I learned- There are fees for Graduation.
Good thing to know. I thought there would be. There were for Vermont College.

What this letter states is $406. is required if you are staying that graduation residency in a single room $229. if you are staying off campus and $229 if you do not attend graduation.

I guess you don't know for sure that you are graduating until you get that last packet in and it is blessed by the adviser. I would expect there is the entire first reader, second reader, thesis thing that I experienced in Vermont College as well. But according to this note it looks like you have to have your fees in 1 month prior to residency. MENTAL NOTE!

Oh and you can only stay EITHER Thursday, Friday & Saturday or Friday Saturday & Sunday. I think this is absolutely bogus. I feel you should be able to stay Thursday through Sunday night. BOGUS, BOGUS! If you stay beyond that time you will be charged $33. per night for a double room $59 per night for a single room what? "As well as board charges and tuition free for each additional day beyond 3 days?" What? am I still in school that I need to pay a tuition fee? Or do I just have a really , really long flight home traveling across the United States and feel this is a little much. For me I'm traveling a full day to get to Goddard. This does not take these type of students into account!

Other things in the letter, you can have a guest stay on campus (1 guest). You must contact the housing office and students accounts office. My daughter, in her 20's stayed with me when I did my undergraduate studies. That was so much fun. But she is married now and it is an entirely different situation. Graduates can request two guest meal passes for graduation celebratory meal.

Wow at the bottom it says if you file for an extension of 4 weeks, it will cost you an additional $2,256.00 !

To reiterate – graduation fees are:

$229 ------ Grad fee with NO HOUSING, the minimum mandatory fee.

$406 ------ Grad fee including housing in a SINGLE ROOM for 3 nights or less ($229, minimum fee, + $177, 3 nights single room fee)

$465 ------ Plus 1 extra night in a SINGLE ROOM (does not include extra meals)
($229 + $177, 3 night in a single, + $59, 1 extra night in a single room)

$328 ------ Grad fee including housing in a DOUBLE ROOM for 3 nights or less ($229, minimum fee + $99, 3 nights double room fee)

$361 ------ Plus 1 extra night in DOUBLE ROOM (does not include extra meals) ($229 (minimum) + $99 (3 nights in a double) + $33 (1 extra night)

Do I hear cha ching? O.k. Alum any other things we need to look out for?
