Packet 1G3 DONE!

It is interesting to see all of the posts by individuals from Goddard on Facebook. Each has their own thing to say about Packet number 1. I finished mine a bit early, but it took me 4 days to get it to the postoffice, and I was unsure as to how long it would take snail mail to get to my adivsor.

I was anxious to wrap up that first packet because I had a tremendous amount of work to do on an art project. I really wanted to focus on it and not worry about packet writing or process writing about it. So, I saved it until next month. Onward!

Goddard now has a greenhouse blog

The address list is available

If you are a student with a student ID you can now get this years class mailing list. This link will take you to the College website. Just input your name and password.

FYI- if you are thinking about next residency...

Plan on coming in as early as you can for the winter residency. The weather can be fickle up there in the great white north. It was fine when I arrived at 3:00 or so, but became a blizzard as we were sitting welcoming students. Many people were held up at airports. Better to start early to get there on time. If you are late for registration you may have to pay an additional $100. YIKES!

My new group

My new advising group. We are missing Jeff. Where are you Jeff?

A great group. We have all gone our own way for the semester. But will come back again when the weather is cold and we are one semester ahead in the game of graduate studies.

A poem recited by Rick at the final session

blessing the boats (at St. Mary’s)
by Lucille Clifton
Quilting: Poems 1987-1990

may the tide
that is entering even now
the lip of our understanding
carry you out
beyond the face of fear
may you kiss
the wind then turn from it
certain that it will
love your back may you
open your eyes to water
water waving forever
and may you in your innocence
sail through this to that

A wonderful thought at our sendoff, and, for me, an introduction to a poet.

wrong dates

Not that anyone really follows this blog, but I had the wrong dates for the due dates of packets. It has been changed. I was thinking it was just around the corner and had to send a week early to get there in snail mail. Indeed I was wrong, so instead of having only a couple of days I have a couple of weeks. The good part about that is that I wrote my ccover letter and drafted the bib. Now it is off to the studio to do some process so I have something to write about and then reading some of these great books that have to go back to the library.

Every person's journey at Goddard is different

It is important to note this. As you read my study plan, or follow this journal please keep that in mind. There are actors, musicians, lighting directors, and many others in the MFA IA. Each journey is different for each person. This journal is one person's journey.

things to remember

1. bring one of those grey plug adapters. If you forget, know that you can get one from the help desk, rented for a $1.60 or something.

if you want to stay connected after residency

check out facebook. I know some say. I have refused facebook. But I must say what it has done for me is to be able to put face with name. I have connected with some of my classmates over the semester through facebook. Upon returning home I post my pictures from my trip and people tag themselves. People who were just faces, now are connected face to name.

There are no name tags at Goddard. I'm not sure why, I think someone once thought it went against soemthing or stifled something or whatever. facebook is how I connect. I'm a visual person.

Then as i am connecting to people I look at who they have connected to, especially right after residency, and find. ah that is the person I ate with every morning- so I friend them. My list grows intentionally. And through the process I get to read their poetry, or see their dances, or look at their familes and somehow I am connected more. So if you are reading this and want more interaction please friend me on facebook.

Oh yes, all of my photographs from each residency as well a s my artwork are on facebook.
